Sexual pleasure is a multifaceted experience that goes beyond mere physical sensations. It involves the brain's pleasure center and is shaped by our emotional processing systems. According to Emily Nagoski, sexual pleasure is composed of three key components: Enjoying, Expecting, and Eagerness. These components are interconnected and influence how we experience sexual pleasure.

Enjoying System:

· The "Enjoying" system is akin to the brain's reward mechanism, determining if something feels good or bad.

· It manages experiences such as the thrill of winning, falling in love, tasting something sweet, and sexual sensations.

· It’s the brain’s way of saying “hell yes!” or “hell no!” in response to stimuli.

Expecting System:

· This system links current experiences with anticipated outcomes based on past emotional experiences.

· It’s about learning to anticipate pleasure from sexual stimuli based on what has been rewarding in the past.

Eagerness System:

· The "Eagerness" system drives the desire to move toward or away from something.

· It is activated differently depending on the context:

With stress, it seeks safety.

With attachment, it seeks affection.

In a sexual context, it seeks sexual stimulation.

· Yearning or craving is powered by this system.

Interaction of the Three Systems:

· Nagoski explains how these systems interact to create sexual pleasure:

Expecting: Recognizes something sexually relevant.

Enjoying: If the context is right, the brain enjoys the stimulus.

Eagerness: If the stimulus is enjoyable enough, the brain craves more.
